A key to job satisfaction is how well you communicate with your boss.
Does your supervisor listen to you? Does s/he respect your ideas and value your input? Does your boss give you autonomy over your tasks, or is s/he a micromanager, constantly interfering?
The answer is fundamental to your job satisfaction, because no matter how much you’d like to, you’ll never win an argument with your boss.
(You’ll never ‘win’ an argument, ever, but that’s another post entirely).
Why can’t you prove your boss wrong? Because your boss is your #1 client at work, and the client is always right.
No matter what your role is, it’s your job to help to make your boss look good at work, not to make him or her look bad. Ever. (Leave this to people to do for themselves).
It’s easier to help your boss look good if your boss is smart, talented, and admirable. It’s harder if your boss is lazy, incompetent, or a jerk.
If possible, try to work for a person whom you respect, who respects you. It’s important to work for someone who is ethical, whose values you share. Things will go more smoothly then. It’s not always possible.
People will feel it when you dislike them, though, so don’t waste energy disliking your boss. If you don’t like your supervisor, or this person has decided something you don’t agree with, either come to peace with it, or look for a new role.
Remember: you won’t win if your boss loses. A good relationship with your supervisor is key.
